The original line-up of Ian McCalman, Hamish Bayne and Derek Moffat first met during registration for entry into Edinburgh College of Art on 6th October, 1964. Discovering their mutual interest in folk music they went on to form the band which over forty years has become almost a Scottish institution. In 1982, Hamish retired to the quieter life, making concertinas and Nick Keir joined the group. Derek Moffat passed away in 2001 and Stephen Quigg (who stood in for him during his illness) officially joined the line-up.
As Scotland's foremost folk song trio, their performance is based on searing three part harmony, humour and a respect for the tradition of song in Scotland. They have performed all over the world and in their native Scotland, they have had six major TV series and countless BBC Network Radio series and appearances.
