Still in his twenties, the career of award winning saxophonist, Paul Towndrow has skyrocketed since his recent success at The World Saxophone Competition at Montreux Jazz Festival. The last few years have seen him headline at renowned jazz festivals including Brecon, Cheltenham, London, Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as performances across Europe including in Norway, Switzerland, Russia and Italy.
Paul can regularly be heard performing with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra as well as with popular Scottish groups, Hue & Cry and The Peatbog Faeries. He has also toured with sensational US group, The Bad Plus.
This tour celebrates the release of Towndrow’s third CD (‘Six by Six’ – Keywork Records) and a departure from his regular quartet format. The Sextet presents the cream of the UK’s jazz talent and showcases Scotland’s vibrant jazz scene.
The music is youthful, fresh and powerful but with a firm grounding in the jazz tradition, showcasing Towndrow’s compositional talent alongside virtuosic and emotionally driven soloing from some of the countries top improvisers.
