The title of the exhibition was inspired by the Gaelic naming of places. It brings together a body of work created from Anne Devine's 2004 Artist in Residence post at An Tobar working on a project called "Wee Islands".
The object of the project was to allow an opportunity for islanders and visitors travelling by boat to engage with a practising artist. During a period of three weeks Anne Devine made boats trips to many of the islands that are situated around Mull. Working directly in the landscape, Anne made numerous drawings and paintings, which became a visual record of that time and the inspiration for the work on exhibition. The experience of the landscape is distilled through working from memory and only essential elements remain.
The exhibition toured to the neighbouring Isle of Ulva and to the two island Agricultural shows on Mull. The opening of 'The Greenness of Sea' marked the beginning of the third Mull & Iona Wildlife Week. |
