The award winning Glasgow based saxophone quartet Sax-Ecosse come to An Tobar as part of their tour of their new project "Being Here".
The collaborative project with the quartet, poet Aidan McEoin and composer John De Simone explores the contrasts between urban and rural settings through the medium of music and the spoken word. The group have been working on the project since November 2007 when McEoin flitted to Glasgow after having spent 14 years in the Small Isles and Lochaber. The difference between the two environments, urban and rural, has been a poignant subject for artists and writers for centuries; here, De Simone and McEoin put a brilliant contemporary slant on the subject familiar to us all.
The programme will also include music by George Gershwin, Philip Glass and works written and arranged for classical saxophone quartet dating from the 1930s to the present day.
