Griggs, a native of New York City, has established a reputation as a guitarist with a delicate touch on his instrument. His study of Brazilian guitar styles has taken him several times to Rio de Janeiro, and he excels in the performance of choro, bossa nova and samba by composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell and Luiz Bonfa. His concerts also include music by American jazz composers such as Thelonious Monk and Cole Porter, in addition to his own compositions and a songbook that ranges from the Buena Vista Social Club to The Beatles.
Writing in in the newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger (Colgone, Germany), critic Elke Sprunkel describes Griggs as "a master of soft and expressive tones on his instrument." In Bergische Morgenpost, Sigrid Hedderich describes a concert by Griggs as "a demonstration of the almost unbelievable talent of the guitarist. Peter Griggs performs magic!"
