An Tobar

Faith Holmes

Faith Holmes' work consists mostly of landscape and portrait paintings - watercolours, acrylics and oils, and probably like all artists – it represents the coming together of her own vision of life with what she sees in the landscape around her. It could probably be described as interior and exterior narrative. She hopes that the sum of these two parts fuses into something larger in the act of painting and inspires or provokes the person who sees the work.

Faith is 42, and has been married to Donald for five years, with an eleven month baby – Grace ; she has drawn and painted her whole life, becoming professional two years ago, with the help of a grant. Her training has been informal – just looking and experimenting. She attended University of Glasgow and gained a joint honours, 1st in Scottish Literature and Divinity in 1999. Before living on Mull, she lived and worked in Paisley, Iona, Shetland and Glasgow for twenty years, as a secretary, odd job woman, waitress, care assistant, copywriter…and many other things. Faith grew up on the south-east coast of England (Broadstairs) – near to Tracey Emin(!) before coming to Scotland in the early eighties, aged 18, to find some red Clydesiders to join with!. She has been strongly influenced by the work of George MacDonald (subject of my postgrad thesis). She likes to read and to walk and watch in her spare time.
