Celtic supergroup Capercaillie embark on a "back to their roots" tour of venues in the Scottish Highlands and Islands in May. From their homeland origins in Argyll, the band has reached out to all corners of the globe during the past 20 years, bringing their unique, contemporary brand of Celtic music to audiences in more than 30 countries.
It is exactly 20 years since their first album - 'Cascade' (soon to be re-released on CD) - was released in relatively small numbers on cassette tape. Since then, the band has gone on to sell over one million albums worldwide. On this tour, Capercaillie will return to the more acoustic sound that would have been familiar to audiences in many of these smaller Highland and Island venues at the beginning of their career.
The band will perform as as a six-piece - including founder members Karen Matheson and Donald Shaw, along with fiddle player Charlie McKerron, bouzouki player Manus Lunny, bassist Ewen Vernal and Michael McGoldrick on flute/ uilleann pipes.
Donald Shaw: "We felt it was appropriate to do this as an acoustic tour - with a very similar line-up to the one we began with in 1983. We are very much looking forward to returning to many of our old haunts and meeting some old friends." |
