Description of work
My work is influenced by Scottish archaeology; industrial, prehistoric and cultural, combined with the archaeology of personal memory and experience. Inspiration is drawn from past remains as they exist in their present environment. Most often the structure of the work is created using textile techniques, for example weaving and stitching. This method of construction is integral to the concepts of the work, and the juxtaposition of traditional techniques with contemporary practice is an important aspect. Winter is the season when I most time to develop ideas and this is when Iona is dominated by its celestial landscape. Recent work reflects this background.
