Description of work Technical illustrations, airbrush and line drawings, watercolours etc. of local scenes/buildings of significance to clients - commissions welcome. Tuition also available.
Personal history/training Tim trained as a technical illustrator in Southampton and Swansea. After gaining experience in a commercial studio in Hampshire, he became self-employed in 1986, producing line drawings and large-scale airbrush illustrations for engineering companies, advertising agencies and publishers.
Artist's statement Commissions have ranged from luxury yachts to submarines, from oil rigs to a swimming pool. Through perhaps better-known on Mull as a traditional signwriter, he's still in the illustration business with line drawings, cut-away illustrations and exploded diagrams regularly on the drawing board, and he's still pretty nifty with an airbrush! In these days of computer-generated this, that and the other, Tim believes that a good illustrator can beat a machine in terms of quality and individuality. Tim paints watercolours for fun and relaxation, and folk who know his work sometimes commission him to paint buildings or places which have significance for them. He's happy to provide tuition and encouragement to visitors who'd like to improve their painting skills or who simply need a bit of a 'push' to get them back into watercolours, having perhaps lost confidence.
