Argyll Boxed Collection 25th November – 31st December
Gallery I, An Tobar Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 4pm
This new, selected exhibition brings together 28 individual pieces, each created in a 12"x12"x6" framed box and forming a collection that reflects the range of professional practice in Argyll.
The Argyll Boxed Collection follows on from An Tobar's Island Boxed Collection which was shown in 2005. Lee Hendrick, Visual Arts and Crafts Officer at An Tobar hopes to tour this new, showcase exhibition to Edinburgh in 2007. " An Tobar is delighted to be presenting this impressive exhibition which demonstrates the wealth of talent within Argyll" says Lee. The exhibition has been sponsored by Island Bakery Organics who also offered a £300 Purchase Prize. "Selecting the winner of the purchase prize was a challenge but we were delighted to award it to Mhairi Killin" said Dawn Reade of Island Bakery Organics. "The delicate forms of three figures in Mhairi's piece entitled 'Shadow Men' attracted me not least because they reminded me of the three men in our family."
This is the final exhibition in An Tobar's Visual Arts and Crafts programme for 2006 which brings contemporary arts to island audiences. With such a unique collection of work from some of Argyll's leading artists, art lovers may be further tempted to take one home thanks to An Tobar's membership of the Scottish Arts Council's 'Own Art' scheme which offers interest-free loans for the purchase of original art work.
