Source is a new film work by Dalziel + Scullion, commissioned by An Tobar, Tobermory, to celebrate it’s tenth anniversary. Shot entirely in Mull, the artists took the gallery’s name (Gaelic for ‘well’) as a beginning point for their work.
Over the last decade the artist’s Dalziel + Scullion have been engaged in the creation of works that ask us to consider a different type of relationship with nature. Whilst aware of the shifting political agendas that now surround today’s environmental issues, Dalziel + Scullion’s work takes us deeper into nature itself, as a source for new ways of looking at and defining our world.
In this short film, a journey through a landscape is experienced through the senses of a young boy; his eyes and ears become portals that sights and sound flow through. In his absorbing journey from the sea’s edge – inland, he contemplates the world around him where orderly communities of limpets and seed mussels have found a place to dwell and the coexistence of rocks and mosses seem naturally ordained, what is conveyed is an account of the boys experience, blending his world with ours.
