Rarely have there been such talented musicians who can also genuinely make you laugh. When Rowan Atkinson saw the Demon Barbers perform he said it was "the funniest thing I have ever seen." The collective experience of these five singers is unrivalled in a vocal group of this kind and individually they sing with our greatest choirs - the Tallis Scholars, The Sixteen, Monteverdi Choir, BBC Singers - and all the major UK opera companies. The quality of their performances is outstanding and has been well documented on BBC television and radio (including In Tune, Friday Night is Music Night, Jonathan Ross' Last Resort and That's Life), and they've been featured at many of our leading festivals, music clubs and schools during a distinguished history stretching back to the late 70s. There have even been some private performances by Royal appointment! In the past couple of seasons they've been wowing audiences in Ballymena, Rotherham, High Wycombe, Bolton Abbey, Hexham and at the Royal Opera House (where they starred in Lorin Maazel's opera "1984").
Not at all a barbershop quartet but a virtuoso quintet, singing classics from the American Songbook, great British songs, traditional and popular song, some hilarious novelty numbers, all brilliantly arranged by the group: they cross the boundaries of classical and variety with ease. As one witty commentator reported, they are like "the Marx Brothers, Morecambe and Wise and the Tallis Scholars all rolled into five!" An evening with the Demon Barbers is guaranteed to entertain and inspire.
