Absent Voices presents new work from Iona based artist, Mhairi Killin exploring contemporary craft practice in the light of historical traditions of weaving and silversmithing on the island that is her ancestral home. Breaking down traditional divisions between crafts and fine art, the exhibition explores themes of identity, archeology, memory and journeying and investigates the traditions and heritage of one of the Scotland’s most significant, beautiful and remote locations.
OPEN: Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm; Sunday 2 - 5pm. Admission Free.
Exhibition Opening Thursday 2 July 2009, 6–8pm
Join us at AN TOBAR for a glass of wine to celebrate the opening of the exhibition with accompanying publication which explores the artists work and the processes involved.
Narrating Absent Voices Wednesday 12 August 2009, 6–8pm
Mhairi Killin will discuss the journey she has embarked on over the past two years in researching and developing her work, discussing the importance of her own ancestral heritage in coming to terms with the her own, contemporary cultural context.
